Right to Roam: Raising Old Crockern to Defend Dartmoor
January 2023. Three thousand people gathered at Old Crockern on Dartmoor for Right to Roam — a protest against land restrictions and for open access to wild camp and roam. We marched through hedge-lined lanes and across moorland as the sun dropped, gathering at dusk on the stone village edges. The signs read 'No Darn Walls Here' and 'Hedges Not Hedgefunds,' and an ornate straw effigy of Old Crockern was dressed in green fabric and celebrated. The photographs keep the scale: thousands visible at golden hour, movement, masks, music.
