Schools had built giants: moon faces, orange spaceships, creatures with flower headdresses, lanterns in orange, pink, rainbow. I was moving through the crowds, shooting the handmade detail and scale — painted faces, ribbon streamers, paper stars, the way elaborate colour moves through ordinary streets. Imagination made physical.
