A visit to the boatyard. The Matthew — John Cabot's 1497 caravel, recreated in Bristol and sailed back to Newfoundland five hundred years later. I photographed the red-painted waterline most — gold timber meeting red paint at keel and stern — and the dark workshop visible through hatches, where tools hung waiting in restoration.
