I was drawn to how the pale volcanic fairy chimneys in Red Valley had been adapted — how geological formations became carved dwelling spaces. Doorways, arched chambers, wooden footbridges, stairs winding up the stone, honeycomb patterns of habitation. The evidence is everywhere in the rock: not just the naturally formed cones, but the marks of centuries of people shaping stone into shelter.
